We would like to extend a very warm and excited welcome to Forge Industrial Works, Old Town’s newest destination shop for antique and industrial furniture, décor, candles, gifts, jewelry, and much more. Located on South Royal Street near Market Square Plaza, Forge is the brainchild of our very dear friends, Scott and Michelle Mitchell, who have brought several local businesses to Alexandria over the past few years. One of our favorites is Kaizen Tavern, where you can get some of the very best sushi in Northern Virginia. The Mitchells are also behind the new Snackbar restaurant in Del Ray, which we can’t wait to try for lunch soon.
At the Alexandria State of the Market conference on August 16th, one theme that kept coming up was Alexandria’s perfect blend of small, local businesses and regional and national chains. With this blend, there is room for everybody—for destination stores and foot traffic stores, each one fulfilling a role in our community. Forge will indeed fill a role, offering unique products and antiques that Michelle and Scott have found during their many trips up and down the East Coast in search of pieces you won’t find anywhere else.
The antiques are artfully displayed in the shop among gifts, hardware, tea towels with sayings that had Phyllis in stitches, earrings, necklaces, lotions, hand soaps, hilarious cards, and so on. Forge’s candles smelled so good that we picked up a couple to burn during our Sunday open houses when we stopped by their grand opening last Thursday night.
It doesn’t hurt that Forge is located near Lavender Moon cupcakes, with which Susie on our team is obsessed, or the Saturday Farmer’s Market. Just another way to shop local and another reason to spend a weekend browsing in all of Old Town’s stores for gifts for your friends…and yourself!
